first_imgMobile security is becoming more important every day. With that in mind, we’ve invited Steve Kondik and Koushik Dutta of the CyanogenMod project to talk about their recent work in this field. The interview will take places as a Google Hangout on Air, and will be streamed live at 5pm today. You’ll be able to find it on’s YouTube channel, our Google+ page, or right here on this article.Update: It’s 5pm and we’re live! You can watch the video below. The flexibility of the Android OS is both its greatest strength and its greatest weakness. Developers are only really limited by their imagination, while users need to exercise caution before used advanced features. Amidst all the talk of viruses and malware on mobile devices, there are real security issues that need to be addressed. There are apps that you’d like to use but are maybe not happy with the permissions that the software tells you it will need to use. Or, maybe you’re interested in a more secure form of SMS communication on Android, similar to how Apple’s iMessage works.Steve Kondik and Koushik Dutta have both been working on features geared specifically toward addressing these issues, and we’ve invited them for an interview to talk about them.Privacy Guard and PushSMS are currently available for CyanogenMod users to take advantage of, and each feature delivers something worth taking advantage of. PushSHS offers secure communication between CM users, while Privacy Guard denies certain apps access to your personal information. For example, if you wanted to deny Facebook access to your contacts list, so they don’t accidentally share that information with the world, you could do so with Privacy Guard. These features are designed to be simple to implement and offer some peace of mind when using your phone, and does so in a way that doesn’t negatively affect the app developer in any way.If you have any questions during the interview, please feel free to post them in the comments, on’s YouTube channel, or on our Google+ page.last_img read more
