They were all wrapped up nice and warmly, one really keen competitor even donned a head lamp to improve his chances of seeing through the murky fog .Visibility varied from 100 yards down to 50 yards .The lone first time visitor remarked after his round that it was the first time he had played a course and never saw it.On Saturday the competition was won by Stephen Bonner who had a very consistent round scoring at every hole and had a birdie on the fourth, worth 5 points on his way to 22 points on the front nine. While he had a stumble or two over the last three holes he held it all to-gather to amass 18 more points. In second place was Conor Friel, a member of the Fred Daly Plate team who had reached the semi final of this Ulster competition was consoled when awarded his first ever gross prize. Emmet Burke was runner up and Category four Supremo Gerry O’Sullivan was third. The big honour of the week end goes to Roy McCrory .In all the fog and restricted visibility he scored a massive 42 points. On reflection he had such an advantage over the field as Roy hits the ball further than most of us can see so the fog was no disadvantage to him .At the start did not have matters all his own way as one of his playing partners Kieran Sweeney matched him par for par and birdie for birdie on the first nine for them both to be one under .However Roy was only warming up and proceeded to have a level par back nine to lead in the field by 5 clear shots .Kieran dropped three shots at 10 and 11 and although he rallied some what he had to be satisfied with the Gross placing as Paul Callaghan and James McDaid took the other minor places.24/11/2012Ist Stephen Bonner 402nd Emmet Burke 39Gross Connor Friel 303rd Gerry O’Sullivan 37 25/11/20121ST Roy McCrory 422nd Paul Callaghan 37Gross Kieran Sweeney 29 3rd James McDaidOn the social frontRemember the book launch, Declan O’Carroll’s definitive account of the Centenary Years will take place in the club house on 6th December .The MC on the night will be Charlie Collins and there is a prize for the first person who can remember the name of the grey horse that the club used to own when the club played in Crievesmith. On the night there will be a display of many Photographs of times gone by and also recent time’s .Some of whom did not make the book so the chances that this will be a one off occasion to view them and remember us all how we used to be.The search for old mobile phones continues.
