2016 MacBook Pro Leak Shows Off OLED Magic Toolbar

first_imgApple is finally going to refresh their MacBook Pro line-up. And while they won’t come with E Ink keyboards just yet, they will have that slick OLED touch bar — which Apple is calling the Magic Toolbar. At least that’s how things look now that Mac OS 10.12.1 has been released. How does the release of new software tell us anything about the new MacBooks? Because of a handful of images that were shipped with the update. The image above, for example, which is actually showing off two things apart from the existence of the Toolbar itself. First, there’s the arrival of Touch ID. The sensor is embedded at the far right side of the Magic Toolbar, and you’ll be able to use it to do the same things you can do on an iPhone or iPad.One of those things is making payments with Apple Pay. The second thing the image shows is the Magic Toolbar’s contextual awareness. Knowing that there’s an Apple Pay prompt on the screen, the Toolbar helpfully draws an arrow to direct your finger to the Touch ID sensor — and places a cancel button at the opposite end in case you’re having second thoughts about your purchase.Apple has a big event scheduled for tomorrow, so you don’t have long to wait to find out whether the Magic Toolbar will ship on the 2016 MacBook Pro. While the Magic Toolbar and Touch ID are being added, several other things are believed to be going away — like the MagSafe port, SD reader, and HDMI output. The headphone jack is sticking around, though, and the MacBook Pro will feature several USB Type-C ports… unlike the standard MacBook.last_img read more
