India U-19 thrash Sri Lanka U-19 by six wickets in first Youth ODI

first_imgIndia’s U-19 team began the five-match limited-overs series against Sri Lanka in a remarkable fashion as they thrashed the hosts by six wickets in the first Youth ODI in what was a one-sided contest in Colombo on Monday.After the Indian bowlers put up a brilliant team effort to bowl out Sri Lanka, the batsmen hardly struggled and it was again a team effort as they chased down the target with much ease to win the match.India U-19 were coming off a stupendous Youth Test performance where they whitewashed Sri Lanka 2-0, winning both the Youth Tests by a hefty margin. India carried forward the momentum with aplomb into limited overs cricket.Sri Lankan skipper Nipun Dananjaya opted to bat first but the hosts could hardly put up a fight against some disciplined and quality bowling by India and were all out for a mere 143 in 38.4 overs at the P Sara Oval.Three wickets from Ajay Dev Goud, two each from Mohit Jangra (2/14), Yatin Mangwani (2/35) and Ayush Badoni (2/37) and one from Siddharth Desai (1/25) completely rattled the Sri Lankan U-19 side.Coming in to bat, India rode on a patient fifty by opener Anuj Rawat and some useful contributions from Aryan Juyal (20) and Sameer Choudhary (31 not out) to overhaul the target in 37.1 overs. Rawat struck five boundaries in his 85-ball 50.Among the Sri Lanka U-19 bowlers, Lakshitha Manasinghe (2/32) took two wickets while Avishka Lakshan (1/40) and Sandun Mendis (1/15) scalped one each.Sri Lanka’s inability to strike a fruitful partnership eventually cost them.
